We offer several different quilt classes, from beginner to advanced. Our teachers show you all the shortcuts to fun quilting. Here are just a few of the classes we offer: "Butterfly Fancy"-Imagine butterflies floating through the air on a warm spring day-This is a wall hanging by Karen Roossien, (reprinted with her permission) Class instructor-Retta Hand "Raggedy Hearts and Stars"-This is a bright colored flannel quilt. Quilt is as you go. Class instructor-Joy Trimble. This is a great beginner class. "Simple Samplers Coloring Quilt"-"Mary Jane" girl version, "Daniel" boy version- 28" x 42" -These are absolutely precious. These can even be made by older kids. My grandchildren made them this summer and then I pieced them together. The older one even traced his own pictures and did an excellent job. These will be a keepsake for years to come. Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Moondance Pinwheel"-We will be using foundation paper piecing to make half triangle squares. the fabric used on this quilt is a moda fabric, pinks and yellows, use your imagination with other great color combinations you can have a precious heirloom. Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Bulls Eye Quilt"- From the Book "Quilts from Aunt Amy" 58" x 74"- The Bulls Eye quilt is a great beginner project and fun and fast for the experienced quilter. You will need fabric, sewing machine and all the supplies for all the classes. There will be some homework and the top can easily be completed in class time. The sample is made from 24 different background fabrics and 48 different fabrics for the circles. A large variety is what makes this quilt interesting. Coordinate your fabrics or just go for "scrappy" ...make the quilt your own! Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Wacky Patchwork"-this is a great beginner class and a fun class for the experienced quilter. Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Around The World"-This is a fun class for the beginner with some experience rotary cutting. We will use the book "Tradition with a Twist". Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Flannel Star"-This is a real fun flannel class. We used plaids for our display. This is an evening class. Class Instructor-Varla Wilcox "Twisted Sisters"-Fun, Fun, Fun-This pattern and template has so many different looks. This quilt uses 3 different fabrics. Sign up for this class and you are guaranteed a great time. Class Instructor-Elaine Laforce Beginning Sewing Class-this is a great beginning sewing class from an expert seamstress. Retta will make this class sew fun, you will learn many time saving and helpful hints. "Original Star" -You have to see this quilt on display. The fabric used in this quilt has special meaning to me, some of the fabric used in this quilt was fabric scraps from my childrens clothing, all made by their "Gran", Retta Hand. This quilt is admired by all who come to the store. "Layering and Pinning a Quilt"-You will learn the process of finishing your quilt. In this process you will not have puckers on the back of your quilt. This will be a demonstration class. I will show you how to layer and pin and the tools that help make this process easier. I will be using methods used by Harriet Hargrave in her book "Heirloom Machine Quilting". Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Rotary Cutting Techniques"-This class will be demonstration and lecture, so you won't need any supplies. I will make suggestions as to what brand of rulers I find to be most accurate, which you will use the most and show a number of rulers that are currently on the market. I will also give suggestions for your fabric preparation and explain grain line. This class is to serve as a basis for more accurate and easier cutting. Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Machine Quilting-Stippling"-In this class you will learn to machine quilt on your own sewing machine, using free motion technique and also with a walking foot. This is a technique that takes practice and we will learn the basics and get you started. Harriet Hargraves book "Heirloom Machine Quilting" is a great help in machine quilting. Class Instructor-Retta Hand "Double French Binding"-In this class, you will learn the technique of applying a double french binding to your quilts. This process is also good for using on placemats, apparel, etc. If you have a quilt or project that needs binding, bring it, plus your binding fabric and we will learn to figure yardage and complete your project.
